The slice of Pftrovs life and culture presented in this novel is extraordinary. When they returned home, they published their work in Ogonek, the Soviet equivalent of Time magazine, and foad in the book Odnoetazhnaia Amerika Single-Storied America.
My feeling is that very few books can ppetrovs such a broad, intelligent, and yet disinterested diagnosis of America and its ways of life. What a brilliant book - honest, detailed, hilarious. Of course, juice is not the only beverage that comes in for judgment: Describing not only tourist places, but usual life of the country too, authors are describing USA archetype or spirit, and this model seems to be correct nowadays.

Also, remembering the year the book was written, one shouldn't be surprised when reading the very last chapter not really a spoiler - it was praising USSR.
